If this website's left you wanting more (which I hope it has!) the following are a list of websites which are useful, interesting or just a good read.

General

Gaijin Guide Extra

The blog to accompany this website. For a more 'right up-to-the-minute' take on Japan, this is the place to go.

The Japan Times Online

An English-language website with all the latest Japanese news.

Language

Jeffrey's Japanese<->English Dictionary Server

One of the best Japanese-English dictionaries on the web. Very detailed (perhaps too detailed?) with a huge database of words.

Kanji Converter

An invaluable tool to those learning Japanese. Input a kanji to find out its meaning and pronunciation. With different output styles to choose from and a clever system for having the feature on every Japanese web page you look at, this is a very handy website indeed.

POPjisyo

Very similar to 'Kanji Converter' but with the added bonus of big pictures and a breakdown of the kanji that make a compound word. This website also has similar features for Chinese and Korean.

Culture

Total Quality Japanese

An interesting page with many good articles. The 'Getting It Right' section on communication is definitely worth a read, especially if you're interested in the evolution of modern Japanese.
